Mining the Moon

(Inside Science) -- It’s been almost 50 years since we last went to the moon. Now there is renewed interest to go back, not just to satiate our curiosity, but for the survival of our species. Moving economic activity into space will have benefits for business and the environment, but the move to space won’t be quick or cheap. One possible solution calls for a refueling station on the moon, so scientists are working on how to mine its soil for ice, which they believe can be used to make rocket fuel.
